Inverse Square Law

Illuminance = Intensity/Distance2

In Units:

Footcandles = Candelas/Ft2

The most common method used to determine the direct component of illuminance at a point is the Inverse Square Law. This law states that the illuminance at a point perpendicular to the source is the intensity of the source in candelas divided by the square of the distance in feet from the point to the source. A light loss factor should also be included to find the maintained illuminance at the point.
