An Iso-footcandle template or iso-lux template is another quick way to visualize how a particular fixture
and layout will illuminate an area. The template is a representation of the
illuminance "footprint" for a particular fixture in a specific situation. Each continuous line
represents a footcandle level on the workplane.
For example, every point on line B is 1 footcandle. Where Iso-footcandle lines from two luminaires overlap, the effect is additive.
Templates can be computer generated or sometimes manufacturers will provide them. The easiest way to use a template is to make a transparency and then overlay several of these templates on a drawing of the design area. The template must be generated at the same scale as the plan drawing, the anticipated mounting height and for the desired lamp and fixture. Templates are an excellent way to help a customer visualize a design without having an expensive computer program that generates simulations.
